Net Lingo: Huh!?

Net Lingo: Huh!?

How times have changed! There is internet lingo that puzzles me. Actually, it’s downright confusing. I hear terms bantered about such as ASP, Baud, CATP, and MUD to name a few, so I decided to look up some of these terms using the various internet resources available. It became obvious to me that I will never be an upper level website designer or a website designer at all for that matter. I leave that to you technical gurus. Being someone who is set in my ways (that’s part of what a curmudgeoness is), I have definite ideas as to what computer words, acronyms, and initializations should mean rather than their actual technical meaning.

Cited below are ten examples as to why I have computer lingo dysfunction - the first paragraph is my version of the word, the second paragraph is the correct version:

1. Applet: Reminds me of a small apple. My mother always said, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Sometimes I can’t eat a whole apple so I figure if you can’t eat a whole apple, then an applet will do. Net lingo states that an Бойлеры applet is a small Java program that can be embedded in an HTML page. I’m really confused. I thought Java meant “coffee”. orange county va real estate listings I think I need another cup.

2. Archie: Used to be a comic strip character in the 1950s and is later associated with the bigoted, irascible main character, Archie Bunker in the TV sitcom, All In The Family. I loved my Archie comic books. My mother used to get mad at me for leaving them strewn all over my bedroom floor.

According to my internet resource, Archie is software used for finding files stored on anonymous FTP sites. Sounds pretty sneaky to me…getting into anonymous sites…kind of like my mother sneaking into my room while checking out my comic book stash. I wish I could have stored my comic books on a site rather than Компьютерная периферия my bedroom floor, and then I wouldn’t have been in as much trouble with my mother.

3. ASP: Means as soon as possible. When my mother said, “Clean your room ASP (she never said

Speed-up Your Sales Cycle

This week’s article is my response to a question by David Cohen of Bridge-Soft.

“Quite a few prospects have told me that business is stagnant at the moment, but they are hopeful towards the 4th quarter. How do you approach the sales cycle where the cost of the product is relatively high and the sales cycle is lengthy, sometimes six months or more, in Оптические приборы good times. I have little trouble generating interest in our products during my cold calls, but the relationship of a slow economy, long sales cycle, in combination holiday reports on accommodation with the cost of the software puts a few road blocks up. Any ideas on how to either avoid or breakdown these road blocks?”

-David Cohen, Sales Director, Bridge-Soft

Thanks for writing in David. Essentially what you want to know is how to speed up the sales cycle. Let’s start the discussion from the standpoint of why people and businesses buy when they do.

Everyone buys to solve a pain or fulfill a desire. This is true for individuals and businesses alike (businesses are nothing but a group of individual decision-makers). Buying decisions are always prioritized, whether people are aware that they do this or not. Businesses making buying decisions usually have formal procedures for prioritizing their acquisitions. Individuals also prioritize their buying decisions, but this generally is a much more casual and often unconscious process.

To speed north vancouver and real estate listings up your sale, you must move the pain that you are offering to solve near the top of the prospect’s priority list.

Here are three ways that you can do this.

Five Ways to Increase Your Website Conversion Rate

Though it’s wonderful to get all those hits to your e-commerce web site, hits don’t mean much unless you convert them into sales. This is especially true if you are paying for, and not converting, clicks.

If your website is suffering from the “Conversion Rate Blues”, consider the following steps for improving sales and ultimately, profits:

1. Make sure your website is optimized to attract people with the highest potential to buy

When I first designed my log furniture website, Log Cabin Rustics, I unwittingly targeted an audience that wasn’t the perfect one for my site. As things turned out, I didn’t even rank for my two top key phrases, log furniture Газовые независимые духовые шкафы and log beds, in the search engines. I managed to get pretty high on the scale, however, for log cabin related searches.

People who build log cabins are a target market of mine, since many of them eventually purchase log furniture to go with their home. The most likely immediate customers, however, are those who actually searched for the term “log furniture” rather than “log cabin”. When I re-optimized my site for the search terms I thought would bring the highest conversion rate, visitors to my site were more likely to buy because my site was selling what they were searching for. My efforts paid off, when my conversion rate (and Кофеварки sales) doubled in the month or two following my changes.

2. Add a personal, trustworthy touch to your site

I don’t personally care to have my picture posted on the front of my website, although many people do. I do have my name prominently on the site, together with information about why I sell log furniture and my business background as a CPA. I have found that a personal touch goes a long way towards selling log furniture. Many of my customers spend $2,000, $3,000 or even $4,000 on their log furniture order, and some of them have waited years to get the furniture they want.

They didn’t find what they wanted in their local area (they must not have many white cedar trees in Texas), but they found it on my site. There’s just one problem, however. They wish they could touch the furniture, slide the drawers in and out, look for drips in the finish, and generally evaluate the quality before the drop that kind of money. I have had people drive 4-6 hours on more than one occasion for that very reason, and frankly, I don’t blame them. I’m pretty picky about my furniture too. This is where I can help real estate disclosure forms my customers. I use primarily local suppliers, and finished furniture that I sell is finished right in our building. I can and do inspect much of the furniture before it goes out. Our finishing department does a pretty good job, but if I see something I don’t like, I have them sand it down and get it right.

Some people I sell furniture to place their order online or with

Development of the Cypress Creek Golf Course

Venecia Davis, “The Great Wall of Champions on Jackrabbit Road,” Touchstone, vol. XIX (2000), 39-47.

This article examines the development of the Cypress Creek golf course and the Champions clubhouse and the factors that necessitated the construction of a sound attenuation wall along FM 1960. In the mid 1950s, two professional golfers, Jimmy Demaret and Jack Burke, Jr., decided to become partners in a golf course in Houston. An attorney friend suggested they buy a five hundred tract of land along FM 1960, which was about twenty-two miles from Houston. Although Demaret and Burke bought the land, they did not plan to build their golf course there at that time. They changed their mind after learning that the new Houston Intercontinental Airport and the new Interstate Highway, I-45, would be located nearby.

Construction began in May 1957, and the Cypress Creek golf course opened on November 1, 1958 for the first five hundred members. The official grand opening was on April 21, 1959, and it was attended by over Автомобильные антенны six thousand people who came to see celebrities, such as Bing Crosby, Mickey Mantle,
